Ddole House

Local people remember fondly Eluned Davies who lived here for a large part of her life.  Elunid's father was Headmaster in Llangammarch school, her  mother was also a teacher at the school, the family of 4 girls and 1 boy lived in the school House but when the father  died they had to leave the  school house and they moved to Ddole House.

Eluned initially ran a sweet shop on the square but later opened a shop at Ddole house.
Eluned Davies was born in Llangammarch on 17th October 1907, and died
20th February 1994. She was buried in St Cadmarch's Church graveyard on
24th February 1994.

Her parents were Evan Davies (born in Ystradgynlais about 1868 and who
became the schoolmaster at Llangammarch School in the late 1800s), and
Sarah Magdalene Davies (nee Joseph and born in Cwmystwyth in 1868,
assistant teacher and grocer).

After Evan died, the family moved out of the School House to Dole House.
Sarah ran the shop there that Eluned Davies eventually became proprietor
of.

Eluned had four siblings:
1. Mary Davies, born in Cwmystwyth in 1894, died 1920. She ran the
little tin hut shop on the square before her death, and Eluned then took
it over. Before her marriage Mary and Eluned's mother, Sarah, had been a
grocer's assistant at her uncle's shop in Llanfihangel-Y-Creuddyn, so it
was perhaps her mother that persuaded her to become a shopkeeper?
2. Elizabeth Jane Davies, born in Cwmystwyth in 1895, who married in
1920 at St Cadmarch's and moved to Colchester.
3. Annie Davies, born in Cwmystwyth 1896, who married in 1920 and moved
to Kidderminster and later settled in Weston-Super-Mare.
4. Gwilym Irfon Davies, born in Llangammarch in 1899, and later moved to
Swansea for work, then married and settled there.
